Use of polynuclear metal clusters in protein crystallography

چکیده

Application of polynuclear metal clusters for phasing X-ray crystal structures of macromolecules is discussed. Their strong isomorphous and anomalous scattering signal is particularly useful for phasing structures of large macromolecules and complexes, especially at low resolution. The popularity of the metal clusters in macromolecular crystallography is expected to grow in the future. To cite this article: Z. Dauter. C. R. Chimie 8 (2005). © 2005 Académie des sciences. The use of polyoxometalates in protein crystallography – An attempt to widen a well-known bottleneck

Polyoxometalates (POMs) are discrete polynuclear metal-oxo anions with a fascinating variety of structures and unique chemical and physical properties. Their application in various fields is well covered in the literature, however little information about their usage in protein crystallization is available. This review summarizes the impact of the vast class of POMs on the formation of protein ...

Absorption and emission spectrum

It is well known that main group metal ions with an s* electron configuration form a large variety of polynuclear coordination compounds [l]. Recently it has been suggested that in these compounds a weak metal-metal bonding may exist which is achieved by sp orbital mixing [2]. In particular, calculations on Tl+ clusters were used to support this idea. Unfortunately, the metal-metal interaction ...

Syntheses and characterization of two novel tetranuclear lead(II) clusters self-assembled by hydrogen bonded interactions

BACKGROUND The usage of polynuclear metal clusters as secondary building units (SBU's) in designing of metal organic frameworks (MOF's) is a field of current interest. These metal clusters have attracted a great deal of attention not only due to their interesting structural topologies but also due to promising physical and chemical properties. In this regard various d,f block (transition and la...

Metal cluster chemistry: Structure and stereochemistry in the polynuclear rhodium hydrides HnRhn[P(OR)3]2n

Crystallographic analyses of x-ray and neutron diffraction data have provided a definitive structural representation of fHRh[P(O-i-C3H7)3J2j2 and IHRhIP(OCH3)31213. These polynuclear hydrides are generated from square planar H2RhIP(OR)3J2 units by edge (hydrogen atom) sharing and by vertex (hydrogen atom) sharing to form the dimeric and trimeric structures, respectively. The square-planar units...
